Sapore d’aMare: A GEM ON THE LIGURIAN COAST

In the small, beautiful Italian Riviera town of Rapallo resides Luigi Caruso, a fisherman and the proud owner of the seafood restaurant Sapore d’aMare. This unique eatery is not your typical restaurant; it’s a simple boat in the harbour that’s docked next to his fishing boat, Fiorenza II.

A Unique Dining Experience

The menu is dictated by the day's catch. The fruits of Luigi’s labour are quickly dusted and fried, served in a foil tray with a sprinkling of salt. Beer or wine cost 3 euros, and diners can enjoy their meal on a few benches around the pier, making for a real rustic dining experience.

A Lifetime of Fishing

Originally from Ravenna on the Adriatic coast, Luigi has spent over 40 years fishing in the Ligurian Sea. His extensive experience and passion for the sea led him to set up his boat restaurant.

“The money is good here, the life is good. Four months of work here is twelve months of work back home.”

The Charm of Rapallo

Rapallo, nestled right next to the glamorous Portofino and just down the road from Genoa, is a picturesque town that sees an influx of visitors during the summer. The charming streets, beautiful harbour, and vibrant atmosphere attract both locals and tourists. Despite the influx, Sapore d’a Mare remains a hidden gem, offering an intimate and authentic taste of the Ligurian coast.

A Community Favourite

Open for just two hours at a time, Sapore d’a Mare draws a crowd as soon as the shutters roll up. Locals, friends, and tourists alike come to say hello and enjoy some of the freshest fish on the Ligurian coast. The casual, friendly atmosphere makes everyone feel welcome.
